Gallegos Pulls Off a Third at Warnerville!

Warnerville/Regalado Road Race
Written by Platinum rider Alfredo Gallegos

Things started After the team photo with a 5hr drive to Oakdale. Long drive for a race but this race was a lot of fun last year and is worth the drive.

The course is a 17 mile loop relativly  flat with some roller and a 1.5 mile dirt section with 2 right hand turn, a RR track to get over and 1 left hand turn. In addition to all of the previously listed add rain and massive puddles to the the dirt section. It made things very interesting and challenging.
My race was a small field of about 15 guys, but very tactical with 2 teams having the numbers advantage. Tri-valley had 4 guys and roaring mouse had 3. First lap going into the dirt section was slow which was nice to get the legs warmed up. Once we hit the dirt things livened up and it took a good effort to get over the dirt. So much that I had to rethink my strategy. On the second lap the attacks started coming and on the first attempt both TV and RM had guys on the break, which made things difficult for me as I had to go to the front to bring the break back. Soon after I brought the break back with the help of two other guys another break goes off the front, but TV was not represented and I made the best of it as it was up to them to bring it back. Sure enough TV sent 2 guys to bring it back. This allowed me to sit on their wheel and get a free ride until they realized they could not bring things back and guys refused to work with them. At some point one guy jumped off the field and I was on his wheel immediately with a TV guy on my wheel. We started to rotate and work together. After we crossed the dirt section for the 2nd time the TV guy popped and now it was just 2 of us. My companion was super strong and was taking monster pulls, I was trying to stay just at my threshold as I didn't wanted to get popped. On the last lap I was feeling the effects of the efforts, but I had to keep going. Coming out of the dirt the last time we could see the 2 guys up the road and with about 2k to go we passed one of them and we could see the last guys. On the last K we could see the guys 500m up the road, but could not get up to him. I ended up in 3rd place. Overall a great race with a lot of tactical moves. I raced a smart race and it could not had gone any better.
